Blogging? What?

I have done it! I started a blog! Now, instead of pointless rants over Twitter or through a private Snapchat story, I can (kind of) collect my thoughts together. However, I have got to say my motivation to blog was not driven by the need to get everything I have to say out there, although it is a SUPER sweet deal! Over and over, the one question I get every time I mention that I want to start a blog is: Why?. Well, I have the time and the words so let me write about it!
Sitting in quarantine, I have started to realize a lot more about myself and how most of us tend to approach life. I have been alive for 19 years and you would think that I have life figured out at least a little bit. I am not even CLOSE! However, for the past 19 years of my life, I feel like I've always been racing to get to something in the future. In high school, it was rushing to get to graduation. In the period of graduation, it was rushing to get to college and start the adventure. Now in college, it is rushing to get the perfect GPA for medical school, join all the perfect clubs, and create the best resume imaginable. That was me, that is still me. I am still always thinking about the future. Now, I am not saying it is bad to have a plan and to have goals, but it is important to not let those things consume our lives. There is more to life than everything we are chasing!
In this season of quarantine, uncertainty, and anxiety, I feel like I am finally taking the moment I needed to reflect on my life and understand why I have certain goals for myself. We often forget to ask ourselves why we pursue certain things and who it is that we want to be. I, for one, want to be a medical professional. I want to research neuroscience, and it is because of a passion that drives me to do these things. I realize that the GPA, the recommendation letters, and the test scores are all important components to get there BUT I also can face these things and strive for these things with the passion I have guiding me.
So, what is my motivation? Well, have you ever looked up to someone and wonder “Wow, how did they get there?”. I do ALL THE TIME. I want to be able to blog in the most authentic way possible and showcase every aspect of life as a college student. I am always so motivated by people’s stories so, why not add mine to the mix? I know life as a student can be messy and hard but it is also fun, fulfilling and so many times the good outweighs the bad. It is by no means perfect but all together we can motivate each other and push each other to be the best version of ourselves outside of our majors!
I want to challenge you all to take some time to do some deep thinking about what motivates you! Obviously, your motivations do not have to manifest into an entire blog (LOL) but REALLY think! What are YOUR core values? Who is the person that you want to be? Does your passion drive what you are doing?
